Who is Snow Xue Gao exactly?
She’s only the most talked about Chinese designer from this season’s New York Fashion Week roster! Typically described as a white-washed event, New York Fashion Week went against the grain this season, and wet its palette with something different. Since a large number of big name brands as of late havestepped away from showing at the official NYFW venue, room was made for some of the more emerging brands iin the industry.
Many Chinese designers stepped up to the plate, and Snow Xue Gao was one of the more impressive on the list…at least in my opinion. See below for her bio and a link to further explore her newest collection andd to start shopping for your fall wardrobe updates!
SNOW XUE GAO
“New York based women’s ready to wear designer, Snow Xue Gao, founded her eponymous brand in 2016 immediately following her debut spring/summer 2017 show at Parsons New School of Art and Design where she received a Masters of Fashion. Following the company’s inception, Snow’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection was chosen to be one of three emerging designers featured at the V-Files fashion show during New York Fashion Week in February 2017. Having received critical acclaim from Vogue, I-D and WWD, the collection was immediately picked up by specialty boutiques worldwide. Snow’s intricately draped and tailored line breaks away from conventional definitions of masculine and feminine through an exploration of exaggerated proportions, asymmetrical finishes and contrasting textures. Fine Italian wool plaids and jacquards are tucked and twisted with floral silk prints to create a trompe l’oeil illusion — a blazer transforms into a skirt; wool suiting is inlayed with traditional Chinese dress — conceptually merging her Asian heritage and Western culture.
Born and raised in Beijing where she received a Bachelor of Arts from the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, Snow Xue Gao moved to New York City to study at Parsons New School where she received a Masters of Fine Art. Immediately following her graduation, Snow launched her eponymous collection with a desire to explore the balance between tradition and modern culture. Featuring Italian and English wool suiting inlayed with Chinese floral printed silks, Snow Xue Gao conceptually merges her Asian heritage with Western culture.”
